Meet Sean
Sean Traurig Rositano is a policy social worker in the Michigan House of Representatives. Sean is a progressive candidate for Regent, a Jewish Detroiter, husband, and soon-to-be father. Born and raised in Fenton, Rositano has been deeply connected to public education throughout his life. Sean got his start as the student representative on the Fenton Area Public School Board of Education and then went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University and a master’s degree from the University of Michigan School of Social Work. His wife, Molly, is a middle-school math teacher and a proud MEA member and district delegate.
While completing his MSW in 2023, Sean volunteered with the “Payment for Placements” movement, helping social work students receive compensation for the over 900 hours of unpaid internship work required for graduation. Rositano also served on President Ono’s Search Advisory Group for a new Vice President of Communications and worked as a housing policy advisor for Central Student Government.
After graduating, Rositano worked for the then-Vice Chair of the Higher Education Committee in the Michigan House of Representatives, witnessing firsthand the significant influence the Board of Regents has over the university and how they operate without any real accountability.
The Regents closed down the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Office, once a national model. They have infringed on First Amendment protections and are surveilling students so they fall in line. They have ended lifesaving healthcare for trans kids; not because of science or safety, but because President Trump demanded they do so. They willfully ignore students and faculty when making decisions and drafting campus policies.
Sean Rositano is running to be your next Regent to restore trust and transparency to the Board and give the University of Michigan back to the people that the Board is elected to serve.
